So that's what educators were so shocked by! I thought it was because every major study on language acquisition over the last twenty years agrees that it takes 5-7 years to acquire the level of English necessary to function in a classroom of any subject matter, and students cannot be idle in topics like math and science while their classmates move ahead so teaching newcomers basic skills in their first language is universally recommended amongst language scholars based on quantifiable test results. But thanks to this cartoon, I realize that the real uproar was "liberals" think that only speakers of Spanish can reach levels of success in this country. As we all know, Spanish-speakers could NEVER become professors or doctors or nuclear engineers! Ha! Stupid liberals!
